Different USES of Mild steel, Medium carbon steel and High carbon steel
Mild steel is carbon steel with a carbon content of less than 0.25%. Because its strength is low, hardness is low and soft, it is also called soft steel.
Mild steel is generally rolled into Angle steel, channel steel, I-steel, steel pipe, steel belt or steel plate, used for making various building components, containers, boxes, furnace body and agricultural machinery and tools, etc.
High quality mild steel rolled into sheet, to make car cab, engine hood and other deep-drawn products, also rolled into bar, used for making mechanical parts with low strength requirements.
Mild steel generally does not heat treatment before use, the carbon content is above 0.15% by carburizing or cyaniding treatment, used for the requirements of high surface temperature, good wear resistance shaft, sleeve, sprocket and other parts.
Medium carbon steel is carbon steel with a carbon content of 0.25% ~ 0.60%. It includes most of the high quality carbon structural steel and some of the ordinary carbon structural steel.
Medium carbon steel is mainly used to make high strength moving parts, such as air compressors, pistons for pumps and impellers for steam turbines, heavy machinery shaft, worm, gear etc. Surface wear resistant parts, crankshaft, machine spindle, roller, fitter tools etc.
High carbon steel is often called tool Steel, carbon content is 0.60%~1.70%, it can be quenched and tempered. Hammers and crowbars are made of steel with 0.75% carbon content. Cutting tools such as drills, thread tap and reamers are made of steel with a carbon content of 0.90% to 1.00%. Mainly used to manufacture springs and wear-resistant parts.
High carbon steel has high strength and is widely used in cutting, drilling, lathes, milling machines and other environments requiring high hardness.
