Characteristics and Applications of Titanium and Titanium Alloys
Titanium is a new material with low density, high specific strength, heat resisting and corrosion resistance. Titanium parts are widely used in aerospace, petrochemical, electric power, desalination and other fields.
- High specific strength
Titanium is with high strength, good rigidity and light quality parts. Currently, aircraft engine components, skeleton, skin, fasteners and landing gear are use titanium alloy. - Good temperature performance
At high temperature, titanium alloy can still maintain good mechanical properties, the new heat-resistant titanium alloy operating temperature can reach 550-600℃. At low temperature, titanium alloy strength is increased than at room temperature, low temperature titanium alloy at -253℃ can also maintain good toughness. - Corrosion resistance
Titanium alloy corrosion resistance is much better than stainless steel working in the humid atmosphere and seawater. It is especially with strong resistance to pitting corrosion, acid corrosion and stress corrosion, and also with excellent corrosion resistance to alkali, chloride, nitric acid, sulfuric acid, etc. But it has poor corrosion resistance to reducing oxygen and chromium salt medium. - Low density
It weighs only half as much as iron, often referred to as light metals with aluminum and magnesium. Titanium alloys, aluminum alloys and magnesium alloys are called light alloys.
