Commonly Used Surface Hardening Treatment Methods
Refers to by the proper way to make the parts surface hardening but the parts heart still has strong toughness. Through this treatment, can improved the wear resistance and fatigue resistance of the parts. As the parts heart still has good toughness and strength, so it has good resistance to impact load.
The commonly used surface hardening treatment methods mainly include carburizing, nitriding, hard anodizing, chrome plating, surface quenching, etc.
Carburizing
Carburizing refers to the infiltration of carbon atoms into the steel surface. Carburizing is mainly used for low carbon steel or low alloy steel. After carburizing, low carbon steel workpiece has high carbon steel surface, then after quenching and low temperature tempering, the workpiece surface has high hardness and wear resistance, and the workpiece central part still maintain the toughness and plasticity of low carbon steel. Carburizing process is widely used in aircraft, automotive and tractor machinery parts, such as gear, shaft, camshaft, etc.
Nitriding
Nitriding refers to at a certain temperature, a certain medium to make nitrogen atoms into the workpiece surface. Commonly there is gas nitriding, liquid nitriding and ionic nitriding.
Hard anodized
The main purpose of hard anodizing treatment of aluminum alloy is to improve the performance of aluminum and aluminum alloy, including corrosion resistance, wear resistance, weather resistance, insulation and adsorption, etc.
Chrome plated
The hardness of chromium can reach 800~1000HV, it is the hardest metal. It has a strong passivation property, in the atmosphere quickly passivation, so the chromium layer in the atmosphere is very stable, can maintain its luster for a long time.
Surface quenching
A surface heat treatment process that only quenches the steel workpieces surface. The steel surface quenching is mainly used for parts that require wear resistance, torsion resistance, bending resistance and contact resistance.
