Copper Alloy Materials and Properties Commonly Used in Machining
- Copper
– Density is 8-9g/cm3, melting point is 1083℃.
– Well conductivity, widely used in manufacturing wires, cables, brushes, etc.
– Good thermal conductivity, commonly used to manufacture magnetic instruments and instruments, which are with requirement of anti-magnetic interference. Such as compass, aeronautical instruments, etc.
– Excellent plasticity, can be made into pipes, rods, wires, strips, strips, plates, foils and other copper raw materials.
– In the atmosphere, sea water and some solutions, has a good corrosive, used in the chemical industry.
– Good weldability, can be made by cold and thermoplastic processing, into a variety of semi-finished and finished products.
- Brass
– Copper Zinc Alloy. Density is 8.5-8.8g/cm3, melting point is 1193℃.
– Zinc content is less than 35%, is α Brass. Good plasticity, suitable for hot and cold pressure machining.
– Zinc content ranges 36% – 46%, is ( α+β ) Brass. Plasticity decreases, tensile strength increases, only suitable for hot pressure machining.
– Zinc content exceeds 46% ~ 50%, is β Brass. Performance is hard brittle, no pressure working.
- Bronze
– Copper Tin Alloy. Density is 7.5-8.9g/cm3.
– Good casting performance, wear resistance and chemical stability.
– Low melting point, high hardness, strong plasticity, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, bright color and so on, suitable for casting all kinds of utensils, machinery parts, bearings, gears etc.
- Cupronickel
– Copper Nickel Alloy. Density is 7.89g/cm3.
– High strength, corrosion resistance, hardness, resistance and thermoelectricity.
– Excellent mechanical and physical properties, good ductility, high hardness, beautiful color, corrosion resistance and good deep drawability. So it widely used in shipbuilding, petrochemical, electrical appliances, instrumentation, medical equipment, daily necessities, handicrafts and other fields.
– Is an important resistance and thermocouple alloy.
– Contains nickel, is more expensive.
