Grinding Characteristics

Grinding is a precision machining method. On the basis of finish, use a grinding tool and abrasive ground a very thin layer of matal from the workpiece surface.

  • High dimensional accuracy.

Grinding used for a very fine powder, ground a very thin layer of metal at low pressure and low speeds. During the grinding process produces very little heat, the workpiece deformation is also very small, surface metamorphic layer is very slight, so that can obtained high precision surface.

  • High precision of surface shape.

Grinding can be used to process metallic and non-metallic materials, can machined surface shape are planes, inner and outer cylinders and cones, convex and concave spheres, threads, tooth surfaces and other shapes.

The cutting amount is small and the motion is complex. And independent of the accuracy of motion. Therefore, can be obtained high shape accuracy.

  • Small surface roughness.

There is some relative motion between the parts and the grinding tool, each trajectory does not repeat the previous trajectory, therefore, can be unifoemly removed the convex peaks on the part surface, reduce surface roughness.

  • Improve the part surface wear resistance.

The surface roughness is small, friction coefficient is reduced, the effective contact area is increased, and the wear resistance is improved.

  • Improve the parts surface fatigue strength.

Grinding surface has compressive stress, it is beneficial to improve the fatigue strength of part surface.

  • Good manufacturability.

The grinding equipment is simple, easy to manufacture. Not only suitable for single piece production by hand, also suitable for batch mechanized production.

Grinding can be processed steel, cast iron, all kinds of nonferrous and nonmetallic metals. For example, it can grind glass, ceramics, diamonds and other hard and brittle materials.

  • Extensive use.

Grinding is widely used in the processing of various precision parts in modern industrial production. All kinds of block gauges, optical glass, precision tools, semiconductor components, precision mating surfaces need to be ground.

Grinding enables the workpiece to be of precise and high finish. Therefore, the workpiece with high requirements of smoothness and precision needs to be ground.

Tight fitting parts, such as slide valves and valves on the brake, must also be ground to ensure that high pressure air does not leak.
