What is Engineering Plastic?

– Definition

Engineering plastic can be used as engineering material and substitute for metal material to do CNC machining parts. Engineering plastic has excellent comprehensive performance, high rigidity, small creep, high mechanical strength, good heat resistance, good electrical insulation. It can be used in harsh chemical and physical environment for a long time, it can replace metal as engineering structural material.

– Classification

Engineering plastic can be divided into general engineering plastic and special engineering plastic. Special engineering plastic mainly refers to the engineering plastic with heat resistance up to 150℃ and above.

– Main Performance

(1) Compared with general plastic, it has excellent heat and cold resistance, excellent mechanical properties in a wide range of temperatures, and suitable for use as structural materials;

(2) Good corrosion resistance, less environmental impact, and good durability;

(3) Compared with metal materials, easy to process, high production efficiency, and can simplify procedures, save costs;

(4) Good dimensional stability and electrical insulation;

(5) Light weight, high specific strength, and has outstanding anti-friction, wear resistance.

– Main Varieties

Mainly includes the below Varieties:

(1) Polycarbonate — PC

(2) Polyamide — Nylon/ PA

(3) Polyacetal — POM

(4) Polyphenylene Oxide — PPO

(5) Polyester — PET/ PBT

(6) Polyphenylene Sulfide — PPS

etc.
